Traditional custody concentrates control in one private key or one hardware module. Whoever holds it holds everything, and losing it, leaking it, or having it seized is catastrophic and irreversible. Operations make it worse: rotating keys usually means moving every asset to new addresses.
A lone private key is the whole castle. Compromise it once and every asset under it is gone, with no recourse.
Handing assets to a third-party custodian replaces key risk with counterparty risk: their insolvency or breach becomes yours.
Conventional schemes force an on-chain move to new addresses just to rotate a key, disrupting integrations and reconciliation.
The signatures proving who controls an account rest on cryptography a future quantum computer can break.
Not a key in a vault: a private key that is never whole, split across parties and reconstituted only as signatures, never as a secret.

Threshold ECDSA via CGGMP21 and threshold Schnorr via FROST, so the key exists only as distributed shares. This is the frontier, and the hardest part.
Shares are generated and held under hardware security modules with cryptographic attestation of their integrity.
